KOYAMAKAN
KARATE ASSOCIATION
The Koyamakan Karate
Association was formed under the direction of Kyoshi Ronald Lindsey, the head of the KOKUSAI SHURITE KARATE KOBUJUTSU RENGO
KAI (KSKKRK), a federation established to preserve the old methods of Shuri Te karate in which Koyamakan is categorized.
Koyamakan Karate is an old Village style of Karate that originated in Okinawa.
For many years, we as a style have stayed away from associations
and politics in general in the martial arts. However, we have a strong bond and agreement in values concerning Karate
with Kyoshi Lindsey. So, therefore, we have been chartered as an official Dojo of the KSKKRK. As a member of this federation,
Kyoshi Lindsey helped us to receive our charter to become an official association. By becoming an association, we will be
able to keep in contact with other Dojo who practice Koyamakan Karate and oversee that Koyamakan Karate is being taught, as
it should.
The Philippi Martial Arts Academy is the Hombu (Headquarters)
Dojo for the association with Kyoshi David Wolfe as President and Renshi Jeff Walters as Vice President. Our Association will
also allow other small Dojo without covering to join an established association.
The prerequisites to join are as follows. You must be a Dojo Kancho (head of the
Dojo). And you must practice the Shuri Te Style of Karate. To see if you qualify
just drop us an E-Mail telling us what type of Karate you teach. As a member of the KKA it is MANDATORY that you join
the KSKKRK. This federation is a collection or a banding together of several martial arts associations for the mutual
benefit of the members. The objectives of the federation are:
1. To recognize outstanding Karateka throughout the world who practice and teach the Shuri Te style
of Karate.
2. To increase the awareness that many of todays popular Karate styles actually owe there
origin to the original Shurite (Shuri hand) system developed on Okinawa by Soken Matsumura some 140 to 150 years ago.
3. To create an elite organization of outstanding Martial Artists who are interested in banding
together for mutual benefit. This organization will offer these martial artists a means by which they can continue to learn
and develop their art. In doing so, this federation will offer its members to be recognized, earn promotions and
honors through demonstrations of actual skills, knowledge, and leadership not through other means.
4. To create an organization where small Dojo and schools are held in just as high esteem
as large Dojo.
5. To create an organization that places a high value on educational and traditional training
Your benefits:
(1) A Federation Dojo Charter membership certificate,
(2) A Federation Rank Certificate,
(3) A Federation I.D. card,
(4) A Federation patch, and a
(5) A subscription of the Maishin Shorinji magazine.
Cost: The first year will be an initial cost of $100.00, with a subsequent cost of $50.00
a year. That covers the cost of the magazine subscription and initial set up fee. As you can see, this is not a money organization,
but as with all organizations there are costs for certificates, printing, etc.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to address them to me.
Sincerely,
Jeffery W. Walters Sr.
